Mary Kay Mecca RN, BSN, OCN

Oncology Nurse Navigator

Mary Kay’s nursing career began in Pennsylvania, where after six months as a new graduate nurse, she found her love of oncology nursing. After three years in PA, she joined Inova as a clinical staff nurse on the Oncology/ Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at Inova Fairfax Hospital and worked for 22 years as a Night Shift Nurse. Her volunteer work with Life with Cancer led to her current position as an oncology nurse navigator at Inova Loudoun Hospital.

She is an active member of the national and local chapter of the Oncology Nursing Society, and has been an active member her entire Oncology Nursing Career. She also maintains her Oncology Certified Nurse certification.

The transition from a bedside Oncology RN “Night Nurse” to an Oncology Nurse Navigator has allowed her to continue her passion for Oncology Nursing, mentor Novice nurses who have an interest in Oncology, provide guidance, education, and support to patients and their families with a New Cancer diagnosis. She enjoys community outreach and attends many community-sponsored events that support the Life with Cancer program.

Outside of her role as an Oncology Nurse Navigator, Mary Kay likes to spend time with friends, taking care of her garden, as well as supporting community gardens as a member of the Virginia Garden Club. Cosette, a Coton de tulear companion dog is always close by and joins Mary Kay on all her adventures.
