Facing cancer? Life with Cancer can help.
Facing cancer can be one of the most significant challenges a person encounters. Funded primarily by community contributions, our programs and services are offered free of charge to people with cancer, and their relatives and friends, regardless of where treatment is received. Our services include:
- Support and Short Term Counseling
- Children and Teens Programs
- Mind-Body / Wellness Programs
- Information and Resources
- Community and Workplace Presentation
Support and Short Term Counseling
Life with Cancer offers seminars, support groups, individual and family counseling and consultation, and workshops to provide assistance in times of crisis and information about specific cancers. The goal is to help people get the information and support they need to cope with cancer and its treatments in the best way possible.
Life with Cancer’s Licensed Clinical Social Workers offer short-term counseling to individuals, couples and families as they meet the challenges of their cancer journey. Many patients or their families seek support for adjusting to life with cancer, stress reduction, relationship issues, decision making, end-of-life, survivorship and/or grief work. Short-term counseling is offered at the Life with Cancer Family Center and several hospital settings.
Experienced Certified Oncology Nurse Educators will take you step-by-step through your individualized treatment plan providing information on how to best manage side-effects and how to get the most from your healthcare team. Educators are available for outpatient appointments, as well as for inpatient consultations at Inova Fairfax Hospital and telephone consultations.
Children and Teens Programs
Regardless of who is diagnosed with cancer, the whole family is affected. Your children may be taking it the hardest. Children need to know they are not alone during this tough time. Life with Cancer has trained professionals, programs and services that can help.
Mind-Body / Wellness Programs
Life with Cancer offers a variety of classes to supplement medical treatments and make your day-to-day life easier. Classes offer an opportunity to try various creative or physical approaches to address the mind, body and spirit. Experience with art, music, writing or movement is not necessary. All that's needed is a sense of adventure and a willingness to explore.
